Last night… life was made sweeter. After nearly 10 years of waiting, I finally had the opportunity to go see Death Cab for Cutie at Austin Music Hall. A week before my 29th birthday, at that. I had been waiting for them to announce their tour when their new album, Codes & Keys had dropped. Unfortunately, when their tour announcement was made, Austin was not one of the cities on their tour. To say I was heartbroken was an understatement. I did see they were going to be in Dallas, so I was already making my plans to go to that show. But, sure enough, a month before last night, they added Austin, TX. I was ecstatic and begged Husby for tickets for my birthday

Telekinesis opened for them, and they were a blast! They had the crowd revved up and dancing, although I was sad to see some people utterly annoyed. Why? It’s a show, you guys! You’re meant to dance, have fun and BE HAPPY! Talk about some pissy pants there. Oh well. Their loss.
After Telekinesis, about 20 minutes later (after set-up), DCFC took the stage at about 9:15pm. Little did we know that they would be on that stage for almost 2 hours. They played from almost every album they have. They played with passion. They played their freakin’ guts out. I couldn’t be more thankful that they did. I had an absolute blast, even if I had to wait almost 10 years for this show… it was well worth the wait.

The show had ended, but the crowd was not ready to head out. We clapped, cheered, yelled, screamed for more. Sure enough, DCFC came back out and played FIVE more songs! The first song of those five was the one I was hoping to hear live: Stay Young, Go Dancing. I don’t know why, but that song speaks the most to me at this moment. As soon as they started to play it, tears were falling out of my eyes. I was so ridiculously happy.
After their last song, they thanked us and we thanked them. The show was beyond incredible and I am so glad that I was able to see them live. My ears hurt, my voice was almost gone. I cannot wait for my next chance to see them again! Feel free to visit my DCFC flickr set HERE. And enjoy this lovely video:
